Algebra 1 - Jan 30th and Feb 1st

5B Average: 75.22% Highest: `103%
7B Average: 65.76% Highest: 96%
8B Average: 61.17% Highest: 96%
There are a few students that still need to take it due to absences. These clearly are not included in this data.
There are no retakes of this test. If you don't prepare for the first one, there is no reason I need to grade a 2nd one. That being said, I will be reviewing and giving practice problems to students who need to get that grade back up. You earn it back up through the assessments that follow. You earn it up by being able to "complete the square to solve for the zeros" or by being able to successfully "use the quadratic formula to solve for x." Assessment score are about what you show you can do. You will have to show it to earn it.
Tuesday 1/30 - Today we reviewed completing the square and learned how to find vertex form using completing the square. Students worked with partners to explore the relationship between standard and vertex forms.
Homelearning: Complete the worksheet from Desmos by graphing the parabolas and observing what happens when you change a value in the formula.

Thursday 2/1 - We are learning some of the value from the standard form and vertex form and how they relate to graphs. In class we are practicing converting the standard to vertex form and back. We are also graphing from these forms.
Homelearning: Watch the Algebra Nation Section 5 Topic 10 plus Section 6 Topics 1 through 3 videos and fill in your workbooks. While you watch make a list of things you learn about the standard form, vertex form, or graphs of quadratic functions that we haven't gone over in class. Write this list on a piece of notebook paper and turn it in on Monday 2/5.
RECOVERY ASSIGNMENT (assigned for completing the square practice) for those that scored less than 70% on the Section 5 Test. Optional for others to practice for the 30 point quiz on Completing the square next Wednesday. (due by Wednesday 2/7)
ANSWER KEY is posted in Focus under the assignment. Your job is to make sure you can follow the steps to get to the answer.
